If you are a cancer survivor or are currently battling cancer, you know a thing or two about perseverance in the face of adversity. This is just the sort of thing that colleges and scholarship providers love to see in a prospective student. Because of this, there are many well-deserved scholarships available to students who have fought or are fighting cancer. National foundations and non-profits award the majority of these, Some are focused on specific cancers, or are available to students at a certain university or area. To qualify, applicants usually need to submit a personal essay along with their transcript, outlining what their battle with cancer has meant to them. This scholarship was started in memory of Sandra M. Glazier, was the co-founder of the Cancer Concern Center of Point Pleasant. She was elected to represent women battling cancer by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and was featured in the 2001 My Hope Calendar. Sandy was a vibrant person with a zest for life, and an inspiration to all. She passed away on October 22nd, 2001 after seven years of battling metastatic breast cancer. This scholarship was created by Sandy's Family and friends to provide financial assistance for college study to graduating high school seniors whose parents have been stricken by cancer, or who have been afflicted themselves. This is a tribute to Sandys life and interests, a reminder of her battle against cancer and her success as a mother, wife and breast cancer advocate.
