This scholarship was established by Firefly Fuel, a company who is passionately committed to bringing eco-friendly, environmentally sustainable refillable oil candles and fuel to homes, restaurants and resorts. The scholarship was designed to financially support like-minded individuals in their education. Applicants must show their creativity and passion by writing a 500 to 1,500 words essay on their vision of the sustainable resort of the future, or create a 2 to 5 minutes short video presentation or story board of their vision of the sustainable resort of the future, or create & implement a sustainability awareness campaign using social media to educate the public and restaurants there is an economical, eco-friendly alternative to disposable fuel cells used for table lighting, or reuse, repurpose & upcycle disposable fuel cells that restaurants use for table-top lighting.

Candidates must be landscape architecture students with a demonstrated interest and aptitude in the design of play environments who are enrolled in graduate or the final two years of undergraduate study in LAAB-accredited schools. This scholarship was established by friends and family of Mildred McConkey as a tribute to her in 1983. Mildred was an English teacher at Kalamazoo Central High School from 1926 to 1958. The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist graduating seniors from Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix High School. Applicants must have shown noteworthy improvement during their three to four years of high school course work in English composition. Students must be planning to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university.
