The Dane G. Hansen scholarships acknowledges the ability of young people disregarding their financial status. Eligible students are those who graduated from high schools in these 26 counties of Northwest Kansas: Cheyenne, Cloud, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Saline, Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego and Wallace.

This scholarship was established in memory of Anthony "Tony" Gobar of Jackson, a long-time juvenile justice specialist who died of a heart attack in 2004. Tony was a man who found his greatest joy in the simple things in life, had a selfless spirit and willingness to always help another person. He dedicated himself to making his community a better place, especially when it came to troubled youth who found themselves in the state's criminal justice system. This scholarship in his honor benefits full-time junior or senior students at a public university in Mississippi or at Southern University in Louisiana. Students must be majoring in criminal justice, political science, or counseling. Students must also have a career interest in juvenile justice or a related field and must demonstrate a strong commitment to community and public service. Award amount may be used for tuition, books and room and board.
