Scholarships for Good Citizenship

Academic performance is not all that matters when it comes to qualifying for scholarships. Good citizenship scholarships reward students who have demonstrated honesty, leadership, compassion and other such qualities. Many scholarships for good citizenship are offered by local nonprofit foundations, such as Indiana's Hancock County Community Foundation and the Ventura County Community Foundation in California. For some of these scholarships, applicants must be nominated by someone else. Some good citizenship scholarships include a minimum GPA requirement, while others only take an applicant’s personal characteristics into consideration. An essay and letters of recommendation may be required to apply. In some cases, applicants may have to demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is awarded to deserving students who are graduating from any high school in Ventura County and enrolling in an accredited 4-year college or university or an accredited community college. Though the scholarship is open to applicants majoring in any field, preference in the selection process will be given to those majoring in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, and other language arts. Applicants also be a resident of Ventura County and must demonstrate excellent scholarship, initiative, good citizenship and excellent writing skills.

Larry and Mary Antonich established this scholarship in 1997 in memory of their 17-year-old son Paul, who died tragically in August of 1996.
